St James’s Church Choir in its current format, was formed in 1981 under the direction of Olive Rice-Cole, who led the choir until her retirement in 2013. Simon Orrock replaced Olive as the choir’s director in 2013. The choir consists of twenty five members, of all ages. They have travelled to Lourdes on four occasions and performed around the county at several venues.
The choir sing at 11.30am Mass each Sunday in St James’ Church, Athboy and practice for an hour every Wednesday evening. They sing a variety of repertoire from traditional to contemporary liturgical music. Leading the congregation in celebrating the Sunday liturgy is the central focus of the choir, culminating in the great feasts and seasons of the Church year.
New members are very welcome. If you would like to sing with the choir, why not come along to a practice on any Wednesday evening. Ability to read music is not essential; all you need is a pleasant tone and a willingness to learn.
