How to have your say on the government’s school admissions policy: Parents, teachers and members of the public are invited to submit their views on “the role of denominational religion on the school admissions process.” The consultation runs until 20 February. The survey is available on www.education.ie. The Catholic Primary School Management Association said that “this issue is being misleadingly referred to as the “baptism barrier.” The vast majority of Catholic schools are not oversubscribed and enrol all applicants. Reforms to admissions policies will do nothing to alleviate the shortage of school places: only extra school places can achieve that.” We encourage people to take part in the consultation.
