On the 17th October 1317, a Carmelite monastery was founded here in Athboy. It was one of the first Carmelite monasteries in Ireland and served the people of Athboy for over 200 years. To commemorate this great occasion Mass will be celebrated by the Carmelites here in Athboy on Tuesday 17th October at 7.30pm. Bishop Smith will attend. After Mass, Rev Dr. Simon Nolan, university lecturer, will give a talk on “The Flourishing of Carmel in Ireland” to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the founding of Athboy Friary in O’Growney NS. All are welcome.

BAPTISMAL MEETING: The next baptismal meeting for parents who wish to have their babies’ baptised takes place on Monday November 6th 2017 at 8pm in the Parochial House. Please enrol in advance to the Parochial House.                                            

PARKING IN CHURCH GROUNDS:  We ask able-bodied people to park in the car park and leave parking in the Church grounds for those who are elderly and infirm.                                                                 

ENVELOPE SERIES:  The new series of envelopes has begun and the new boxes distributed. Sincere thanks to those undertake to prepare the boxes and those who help in delivering them throughout the parish.                                                                                        

HALLOWEEN BINGO in aid of Church funds will be held on Bank Holiday Sunday October 29th at 3pm in the Darnley Lodge Hotel. All welcome.                                                                                         

LIST OF THE DEAD ENVELOPES are available at the back of all the Churches and have been distributed with the boxes of envelopes.  The Masses on the Feast of All Souls, November 2nd and on the First Fridays throughout the year are offered for those on the parish List of the Dead.                                                                                          

MISSION SUNDAY is on Sunday 22nd October next. Offertory collection at all the Masses next weekend will be for the missions.                                                               

CONFIRMATION takes place on Friday 23rd February 2018 at 3pm.                                   

FREE 5 WEEK BASIC iPhone, Ipad, SmartPhone or Tablet classes commencing on  Monday 16th October 2017 from 10am to 12pn for five weeks and also a laptop class on Monday 16th from 1pm to 3pm. Both classes will take place in St. James’ Hall. Contact Meath Partnership: Angela on 046 9280790.                                                      

CONVENT COMMUNITY CENTRE AGM Monday 23rd Oct at 8pm in Room 19. All are welcome.                                                                                                                                

OPEN NIGHT in Athboy Community School will be held on Thursday October 19th 6.30pm to 9pm with information sessions for pupils and parents at 6.30pm. Application forms are available from the school secretary at 046 9487894 or can be downloaded from the school website. Closing date for receipt of application forms is Friday 15th December. Enrolment/Assessment takes place on Sat 27th Jan  2018.

FAREWELL TO EUREKA HOUSE:  As Eureka Secondary School, Kells prepares to move to its new school in Jan 2018, past and present pupils and friends are invited to join the the closing ceremonies over the October Bank Holiday weekend. ATHBOY ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP:  Club meeting will take place on Wednesday 18th October 2.45pm-5pm in St. James’ Hall. Please note there is no Kurling this week.                                                                                                      

THE CANADIAN AMBASSADOR TO IRELAND Mr Kevin Vickers will unveil a plaque in Athboy on Friday 20th October at 4pm to commemorate the centenary of the awarding of the Victoria Cross to Lieutenant F. M. Harvey who was born in Athboy in 1888.
