DIOCESAN CONFERENCE FOR PRIESTS

Published on

Last week, priests from the 69 parishes of our Diocese assembled in Cavan to begin a process of reflection on the future of priestly ministry and pastoral life in parishes in the Diocese of Meath.

During this assembly, new models of parish life, possible collaborations among parishes, the provision of sacraments, personnel and resources, faith formation and the welfare of priests were considered in the context of the mission of the Church and the desire to sustain vibrant faith communities.

The establishment and supporting of Parish Pastoral Assemblies was deemed a necessary structure in every parish. It was also agreed that there would have to be consultation and engagement with local Pastoral Assemblies before any developments occur.

While there are no simple solutions to these issues, parishes are encouraged to commend this work to their prayers as the Diocese, the Diocesan Pastoral Assembly and the various Parish Pastoral Assemblies consider the next steps in the process.
