In 1985, the parish of Athboy built a third church at Rathcairn for the Irish speaking community of the parish.

Fr. Joseph Kelly was the Parish Priest at the time. Two stones from the Remembrance Cemetery at the late 12th century church link the church with its Norman predecessor.
